Rising from the dunes on the beautiful Ohope Beach coastline, this stunning multi-generational beach house seamlessly blends architectural innovation with coastal resilience. Designed to offer an escape from the everyday, the home reflects the clients' vision of a retreat where three generations can gather, relax, and enjoy the natural beauty of the surroundings.

DETAILS
The exterior exudes strength and character with its use of Corten steel—renowned for its weathering properties and distinct rust-like patina—beautifully juxtaposed against board-formed in-situ concrete walls. These textured concrete walls, which also feature throughout the interior, required expert craftsmanship. Calley Homes were selected for their extensive experience with this specialised construction technique, where precision and risk management are paramount. The result is a refined, durable finish that perfectly suits the coastal environment.
Spanning two levels, the home is designed to cater to the needs of multiple generations while maximising its beachfront location. The ground floor boasts a spacious open-plan kitchen, dining, and living area that flows effortlessly onto expansive decks. A sheltered outdoor nook, framed by Corten steel soffits and a cast concrete wall, provides an inviting space to unwind, protected from the sea breeze. Privacy is carefully considered with strategically placed windows that balance seclusion and natural light with glimpses of greenery, while skylights above the kitchen flood the heart of the home with sunshine.

Anchoring the lounge space is a striking board-formed concrete wall, housing a fireplace—a cosy focal point for winter days spent steps away from the beach. The ground floor also includes a scullery, master suite with ensuite, a utility room, and a powder room, all designed with function and comfort in mind.
The upper floor is a self-contained haven, offering apartment-style living with a second kitchen and dining area that opens to a private deck under the expanse of the pohutukawa tree. This level features three bedrooms and family bathroom, ensuring ample space for children and grandchildren to connect or retreat as desired.
Throughout the home, the interplay of materials is both robust and refined. The internal concrete walls mirror the exterior, while the floating stringer staircase with hand-carved wooden handrails lends a bespoke touch, , illuminated by recessed LED lighting highlighting this central sculptural element.
